About APAC Stainless 98

APAC Stainless 98 is an argon-rich shielding gas with 2% carbon dioxide for MIG welding stainless steel. Using carbon dioxide rather than oxygen as the active addition gives slightly deeper penetration and a stable arc for general stainless fabrication, while the low 2% level limits carbon pick-up and keeps corrosion resistance intact. It is widely used for structural stainless, duplex and ferritic grades and kitchen or food-equipment work.

⚠ Main Hazards

Simple asphyxiant — the argon-rich mixture is heavier than air and can pool in pits, trenches and low or confined spaces, displacing breathable oxygen with no warning.
No warning properties — colourless, odourless and tasteless. The gas cannot be detected by human senses at dangerous concentrations.
High-pressure stored energy — cylinders are charged to 19,000 kPa. Secure cylinders upright, fit the valve cap for transport and inspect the valve before use.
Rapid release of gas can cause cold burns to skin or eyes on contact with escaping gas, valves or regulators.
