About APAC 52

APAC 52 is an argon-based tri-mix shielding gas that combines 5% carbon dioxide and 2% oxygen in a 93% argon base. The small oxidising additions stabilise the arc and lower the weld-pool surface tension, letting the bead wet out flat with very little spatter, while the low CO₂ content keeps oxidation and fume to a minimum. It is a premium choice for spray and pulsed-spray MIG on mild and low-alloy steels where bead appearance and clean-up matter — precision fabrication, automotive panels and thin-to-medium gauge sheet.

APAC 52 is supplied in E-size and G-size cylinders, charged to 19,000 kPa with an AS 2473 Type 10 outlet, and delivered across Melbourne. Compare the full welding range →

Main Hazards

  • Simple asphyxiant — the argon, CO₂ and oxygen in this mixture are heavier than air and can pool in pits, trenches and low or confined spaces, displacing breathable oxygen with no warning.
  • No warning properties — colourless, odourless and tasteless. The gas cannot be detected by human senses at dangerous concentrations.
  • High-pressure stored energy — cylinders are charged to 19,000 kPa. Secure cylinders upright, fit the valve cap for transport and inspect the valve before use.
  • Rapid release of gas can cause cold burns to skin or eyes on contact with escaping gas, valves or regulators.
