About APAC ALU 50

APAC ALU 50 is a balanced 50/50 argon–helium mixture that delivers significantly higher heat input than argon alone. The additional helium raises arc energy and penetration, reducing the lack-of-fusion defects common on heavier aluminium, which makes it a strong choice for medium-to-thick plate, marine and boat building, structural aluminium and pressure-vessel fabrication.

APAC ALU 50 is supplied in E-size and G-size cylinders, charged to 19,000 kPa with an AS 2473 Type 10 outlet, and delivered across Melbourne. Compare the full welding range →

⚠ Main Hazards

  • Simple asphyxiant — this argon/helium mixture displaces breathable oxygen with no warning. The argon fraction is heavier than air and pools in low spaces; the helium fraction is lighter and can accumulate at height in enclosed areas.
  • No warning properties — colourless, odourless and tasteless. The gas cannot be detected by human senses at dangerous concentrations.
  • High-pressure stored energy — cylinders are charged to 19,000 kPa. Secure cylinders upright, fit the valve cap for transport and inspect the valve before use.
  • Rapid release of gas can cause cold burns to skin or eyes on contact with escaping gas, valves or regulators.

Storage
